Something unbelievably special happened this weekend which I hope we will never, ever forget.
A whole community came together and delivered the most incredible event which buzzed non-stop for 2 days.
Friendships were forged and reinforced, generosity was shared by the bucket load, people from all over Godalming and further afield did all sorts of things outside of their comfort zone, and went through unimaginable levels of pain – all for a damn good cause.
The fallout today is everywhere. Sore legs, bums, heads and utter exhaustion. But it’s also safe to say that not one person involved in DibbFest 2013 holds a single regret for the efforts they put in and have nothing other than happy memories to take away.
Personally, I cannot thank you all enough for the effort and commitment you showed in helping me realise my dream. To everyone who donated online or in person. To the businesses countywide who helped fund the event and donated unbelievable prizes to our raffle To the army of people helping to keep the activities running. To the people who kept the kitchen running throughout to feed the hundreds of visitors and participants. To all of the band members who not only dedicated their time to practice over several months leading up to DibbFest, but delivered truly awesome performances on stage to wow the crowd. To the raffle ticket organisers tirelessly working in the background. To Patrick, without whom DibbFest would have been half of what it was. And of course to my biking buddies who didn’t just rise to the challenge, but entirely blew it out of the water. For anyone who didn’t hear – we were aiming to cover 1,000 miles in 48hrs but we actually covered a staggering 1,244! An unofficial World Record.
I am truly humbled to have a bunch of mates who have supported me through a difficult few months whilst I have not been at my best, but who are also prepared to drag themselves out of their beds in the middle of the night and push themselves physically beyond the limit – and then come back and do it all over again. And again.
Last but not least, to my family who have endured and mostly tolerated my DibbFest obsession over the past 10 months. And when the time came they well and truly stepped up to the plate and more than delivered. Again without them it would have been half the success it was.
I have doubtless forgotten to thank somebody here in which case please do not be offended!
DibbFest was always about involving everyone who wanted to be involved and having a damn good time.
This without question we achieved but what we also emphasised was what a special community of friends, neighbours and families we have and isn’t it just so heart warming to remind ourselves of this?
So it will take at least a week or two to gather all of the funds from the various sources together and get it all in one place for a final figure, but we are hoping this will exceed £7,000. The fundraising site will remain open for a while longer as we are still hoping that our monumental effort will encourage people who have not already done so to make a donation to our cause via http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/MatDibb.
Thank you all so much for your support. YOU made it all possible.
With love and best wishes,
